Natural Gas Company Once Again Eyes Indiantown Site for Storage Facility

INDIANTOWN — After a six-year lull, Floridian Natural Gas says it will resume work creating a natural gas storage facility on State Road 710, west of Indiantown.
Representatives from Floridian on Thursday met with Martin County Growth Management to discuss minor changes to their site plan, including reduction in height of one of its two planned storage tanks from 175 to 102 feet.

Florida's first in-state natural gas storage facility cleared its final regulatory hurdle on August 29 when the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued its order granting the Floridian Natural Gas Storage Company (FGS) a certificate to construct and operate the $600 million storage facility.

The Martin County (FL) Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve Floridian Natural Gas Storage Company's request to develop two liquefied natural gas storage tanks in southern Florida, near Indiantown in Martin County.
Nineteen Indiantown and Martin County residents spoke in support of the project during the public hearing that led to the commissioners' decision.
