What We Do

The mission of Floridian Natural Gas Storage LLC (FGS) is to provide storage facilities in Florida for users of clean-burning, economical liquefied natural gas.

Liquefied natural gas has been used in the United States as safe, low-cost, low-emission alternative in thousands of trucks, buses and other vehicles for more than 15 years.  There are over 12 million natural gas powered vehicles in use worldwide.  With the rising cost of imported oil and the low cost of domestically produced natural gas, the reasons for converting heavy-duty vehicles, industrial engines, marine freighters, agricultural and other equipment become more compelling every day.

Natural gas also has safety advantages compared to other liquid fuels. It is non-toxic and, since it is lighter than air and dissipates rapidly, any release of liquefied natural gas would simply result in the liquid returning to its gas form and rising – completely avoiding any ground or water pollution which is a concern with gasoline or oil. Natural gas vehicles also have an unmatched safety record.

Florida's geology is unsuitable for the type of in-ground gas storage you find in other states and its major population centers in central and south Florida are far removed from existing storage in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Florida needs the capability to store natural gas. Floridian Natural Gas Storage will build an above-ground gas storage tank in an industrial area of Indiantown (Martin County) at the Florida Steel Superfund site. This site is close to both of the existing gas pipelines.

Power and gas companies will deliver gas to the FGS facility through their existing pipeline capacity during off-peak periods. FGS will refrigerate the gas until it becomes a liquid and store the liquid in the tank at normal atmospheric pressure until it is needed.

What We Don't Do

Floridian Natural Gas is NOT:

  • A power company
  • A liquefied natural gas importer - we take natural gas from existing pipelines and store it, we do not import liquefied natural gas
  • A natural gas producer
  • A gas exploration company
  • A gas trading company, speculating on the movements in gas prices

Floridian Natural Gas is simply a natural gas storage facility, allowing customers to deliver and store natural gas supply delivered from Florida's existing gas pipelines.
